Roughing End Mills – Cobalt and High-Speed Steel: If high volume stock removal is required in mild material and the finishing cuts will be made with another tool, then choosing a high speed or cobalt corn cob style rougher is the best choice.  Regal has an additional style identified as a fine pitch cob style rougher in cobalt for machines with less horsepower or when the cut will produce a satisfactory surface finish.  Both styles are satisfactory for heavy duty milling.

Regal offers a unique combination roughing and finishing end mill in cobalt and particle metal which will produce, in most cases, a smooth surface finish on the product. This style has a roughing form ground the full flute length.  The form is then truncated, and a flat surface is left with succeeding grooves. This formation makes an efficient cut and the grooves function as an effective chip breaker. These end mills can produce heavy stock removal and still perform finishing on part surfaces.
