Aircraft Drills Special Purpose
Most of the special purpose drills offered are designed to drill and either countersink or counter bore holes for fasteners. In some cases they are identified by the drilling unit in which they are used as Drivematic or Spacematic. Designed for material specific applications like aluminum or titanium, tools are commonly made to the customers’ requirements.
Nut plate drill countersinks are so named because they are used in Nutplate pneumatic drill motors. These portable units require drill jigs and the nutplate drill will drills consistent properly located drilled and counter sunk holes.
Drivematic drill countersinks are so named because they are used in Drivematic pneumatic drill motors. These portable units require drilling jigs and the drivematic style will drill consistent depth and properly located drilled and counter sunk holes.
Spacematic drill motors are portable precision drilling units that perform drilling of holes for fasteners. They can produced hole diameters and depth of countersink to meet the needs of aircraft manufacturers.
Threaded shank adapter drills are short tools that permit right angle drilling in hard to reach places. HSS and Cobalt drills for specific materials are available.
Piloted core drills are designed to open holes 20% to 40% under their major diameter. These tools are intended for straightening and truing holes.
Piloted drills frequently called step drills are two flute construction that eliminate operations. they perform two production operations in one setup. These are to customer specifications and can be HSS, Cobalt or Carbide.
Taper Pin Routers are used to trim around openings in fuselage, windows and other openings. Routers can be controlled effectively and accurately. Fast chip ejection and high stock removal rates can be achieved.
Reamers are used to control the size of drilled holes to tight tolerances. Most aircraft application reamers require specific dimension and tolerances, and are quoted to the customers' needs.
Stoveburner drills have maintained the name even though rarely are they used for drill stove burners. They are however, excellent drills to hold size in thin materials.
