It's Hip To Be Square
Taps have a square ground on the end of the shank to insure the tap does not slip in the holder. Modern equipment, both chucks and holders are secure enough that the square is not critical.
That’s not true, however, in larger diameter taps. Frequently, in many repair operations, the driver locates on the square. Regal supplies taps up to 6 ¼ inches in diameter and often the taps are used to straighten rusty, damaged or worn threads.
In these cases the accuracy of the square becomes critical in aligning this large, heavy tap to re-form and straighten the threads in an expensive part.
How does Regal perform this important operation in the making of large tools?
