Thread Setting Plug Gages
Thread Setting Plug Gages are only used to determine if a ring gage is within tolerance. They are not used to check a work piece.
- Set plugs are truncated and have class “W” tolerances on lead and class “X” tolerances on the pitch diameter
To validate a ring gage is within tolerance after use the thread setting plug gage, both Go and Not Go should be used to verify accuracy. The setting plug is truncated the first half of the thread and measures the pitch diameter, the full form section assures proper clearance at the major diameter of the ring gage.
